Modelling Mobility and Traffic for Disaster Area Scenarios

Details

Brief description

In disaster areas, reliable communication systems are a corner stone of well-organized activities by public safety units. Due to the fact that any kind of infrastructure may have been disrupted, there is a demand for communication systems independent from infrastructure in this "disaster area scenario": A demand for Mobile Multi-hop Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs). MANETs are independent of any kind of infrastructure by their very nature. When creating a scenario for performance evaluation of MANETs, modelling the mobility and the traffic are important tasks because the results of the evaluation strongly depend on the models used.

Our goal is to model public safety scenarios realistically. To achieve this goal we perform measurements at maneuvers. These measurements allow us both to evaluate communication systems and to derive realistic load and movement models.
